You would have thought I’d gotten enough California wildflowers on our stops at Antelope Valley, Lake Elsinore, and Anza-Borrego in March of 2019. Nope. I needed more, so in early April I went on a solo trip south to check out Carrizo Plain National Monument.
Who the heck knew that there’s a spring wildflower freak out just south of San Francisco at Mori Point in Pacifica.

I’ve been posting about the amazing desert sunflowers and dandelions we saw on our wildflowerpalooza trip to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park back in March 2019, but being a desert and all you may have wondered if we were just going to ignore our stabby friends the cacti. We could never do that. These first picsContinue reading “Carousing with Cacti in Anza-Borrego”
Our second stop on the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park wildflowerpalooza trip after checking out the desert sunflowers was on Di Georgio Road to see the desert dandelions (Malacothrix glabrata) blooming all over the place. Two years earlier the famous desert super bloom happened, but we were still pretty darn impressed for our first visit. Zoe’sContinue reading “Desert Dandelions in Anza-Borrego”
After we hit up the wildflowers at Lake Elsinore we headed to Borrego Springs, CA for the first time to check out the desert blooms. Our first big bloom sighting in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park was this amazing span of desert sunflowers. This is embarrassing, but I almost wrote an entire blog post about theContinue reading “Desert Sunflowers in Anza-Borrego”
One of the best spots to see mass quantities of California poppies (Eschscholtzia californica)) every spring is Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve near Lancaster in Southern California. Sometimes nature/timing does not cooperate though. Poppies can be little jerks and decide it’s not sunny/early enough in the day to be open in a giant orange mass ifContinue reading “Sleeping Antelope Valley Poppies”
Hey there! It’s been a long time since we last blogged and as you can see much of our old blog is gone and replaced with only our most popular posts and weird t-shirts for sale. Well, I’ve had it with Facebook and Instagram, so we’re bringing it back to our own web page. AfterContinue reading “North Table Mountain Madness”
Last March we hopped in the car and headed south in search of California wildflowers during Zoe’s Spring Break, and we’ve never seen anything like it. Our first stop was Lake Elsinore where we stayed at the second sketchiest motel we’ve ever stayed in (ask Matti about my 35th birthday in middle of nowhere Utah forContinue reading “Lake Elsinore Wildflower Fun”
It’s been forever since we blogged, but we’re going to take a stab at doing it again on a somewhat regular basis. I still have plenty to say about plants. Last April we had the honor of visiting our friend Tim’s magical butterfly world. Tim has since become butterfly internet famous, and we’re so proud.Continue reading “Timtastic’s Fantastic Butterflies”
